Printing and Packaging is an industry of vital importance in Pakistan as it serves as a backbone supplier to all other key local as well as export oriented industries including Pharmaceuticals, FMCG, Auto Parts and Engineering Products, Textiles, Sports Goods etc. It is also one of the biggest employment providing industries of Pakistan.
Since its inception in 1959, the leadership and members of Pakistan Association of Printing and Graphic Arts Industry (PAPGAI) made efforts for establishment of an institute dedicated to Printing Technology. These efforts bore fruit when finally in 1973, the Government College of Printing and Graphic Arts was established. This institute is the only Government of Pakistan educational center that offers a three-year diploma covering all aspects of printing and graphic arts. It is equipped with laboratories, hands-on workshops, a library, and other facilities.

Most of these gentlemen studied Printing Technology at United Kingdom and it was their vision and quest for an institute in Pakistan dedicated to Printing and Graphic Arts Technology that led to establishment of Government College of Printing and Graphic Arts (GCT PGA)
The Diploma Course of this Polytechnic aims at producing technicians to fill in machine operates as well as supervisory and Junior Managerial positions in printing and packaging units. The College has its own campus having spacious and purpose-built building spread over an area of 5-acres at a central location in Lahore. This Diploma is a three year program that contains several techniques of printing including Letterpress Printing, Screen Printing, Offset Printing, Gravure Printing & Flexography printing.
It has completed 50 years and its alumni are spread not only in Pakistan but also serving in USA, Middle East and Europe and contributing precious foreign exchange for the country.

2. Also in 2004, after hectic efforts by Chairman PAPGAI Mr. Saad Haleem Khan and his team, PAPGAI provided a state of the art Simulation software by PAPGAI. This software is being used todate for teaching printing technology concepts and troubleshooting during printing process.
3. In November 2019, due to efforts of Chairman PAPGAI Mr. Mobien Husseini and his team, PAPGAI provided a state of the art digital printing lab through its worthy member Mr.

In 2023, under leadership of Chairman PAPGAI Mr. Saad Haleem Khan assisted by Convenor Mr. Mobien Husseini, Mr. Abdul Wadood Alvi Vice Chairman of PAPGAI and Mr. Irfan Ahmad, an international standard 6 months course for “Offset Printing Machine Operator Level 2” was started. Upto August 2024 two batches have successfully completed this course and have been given 100% employment in the Printing Industry.

Also under the leadership of the Chairman PAPGAI Mr. Saad Haleem Khan, during 2023 and 2024 historic efforts were made to launch a Bachelors Degree in the field of Printing and Packaging Technology in collaboration with Punjab Tianjin University. Excellent efforts were made resulting in finalization of courses for all subjects, arrangements for practicals, etc. A foundation is now ready for launch of this Bachelors degree in near future InshaAllah.
6. Also in 2024, an MOU has been signed between PAPGAI and National Productivity Organization (NPO) to employ Japanese style of Production Management for increasing productivity and output, enhancing Quality and gearing up for exports. The first batch of 5 companies has been selected for introducing Kaizen, SMED, 5S and other Javanese production tools.
